Can You Visit Mount Bromo Without a Jeep?
Technically, you can enter the Bromo area without a Jeep—but it’s not recommended unless you are fully prepared.
The road to the Sea of Sand, sunrise viewpoints, and Bromo crater is rough, sandy, and steep. Regular cars or motorbikes are not allowed beyond certain points (like Cemoro Lawang or Sukapura) because only 4WD Jeeps are permitted inside the national park.
If you don’t use a Jeep, you would need to:
- Hike or walk long distances (sometimes 2 km more less one way) and sunrise with only seruni view point.
- Start very early and be physically fit
- Be aware of the cold and limited lighting before sunrise
- Deal with soft volcanic sand that’s hard to walk on
